Beqa Lagoon, Fiji - June 2013
Bula, bula! Upon our arrival at Beqa Lagoon Resort, we were warmly welcomed by the Fijian people and offered complimentary foot massages! The resort grounds are green and lush, with the beachfront bures offering beautiful sunset views. We experienced a few days of rain, but that didn't stop us from enjoying our delicious meals, the friendly people and wonderful spa services. Most of our group enjoyed multiple massages at seaside Lali Spa! What a great way to get on Fiji time! The meals at BLR are served family style - with our group of 24 sitting at the same table. My favorite part of the meal service was our servers - they knew our names within a day of getting there. They were so friendly all the time. Mid-week, we celebrated two birthdays and an anniversary. The kitchen staff baked two amazing cakes to help our guests celebrate! Because of the friendliness of the Beqa people, our trip motto became "One Love".
The Beqa Lagoon dive sites were spectacular - tons of fish and vibrant color. Our dive crews took great care of us! We ran into strong current a couple of days, but three of our dive days were absolute perfection: sunny, calm and water like glass! One of those days we dove Blue Wall, on the outside of the lagoon. This had to be my favorite dive of the week. The water clarity was amazing! Other favorite dive sites were Fantasea and John's Tunnel, near the old Surf Camp (now deserted). Later in the week, we did the famous shark dive and we were not disappointed! I have never seen so many fish, lemon sharks, nurse sharks and bull sharks in one place. It was definitely worth the choppy seas! One of our divers had an incident with a green moray eel - apparently the eel thought our diver's thumb was part of the menu! Ouch! Vinaka for not taking his thumb off, Mr. Eel!
