Cozumel, Mexico - October 2007
It's no wonder cruise ships flock to this island - it's such an exciting place to be. There is so much to do - shopping, exploring, and of course, diving. The diving in Cozumel is still spectacular in spite of being hit hard by hurricanes over the last several years. This is the first trip I lead for Ultimate Dive and Travel. We stayed at the Fiesta Americana Resort just south of town. Their dive center, Dive House, was well-equipped and the dive staff very knowledgeable. I enjoyed drifting along the reefs, effortlessly watching the scenery pass by - tropical fish, soft coral and sponges. We encountered many lobster, crab and octopus...and were lucky enough to find a seahorse as well. We also dove the C-53 wreck and survived Devil's Throat! The day before we were to return, we took the ferry to Playa del Carmen where we hooked up with our Tulum tour guide. After visiting the ruins of Tulum, we were able to dive the cenotes, the freshwater caverns in the heart of the Yucatan. I was surprised by how clear the water was and it seeing the sunlight was coming through the caves was an amazing site.
