Cayman Brac, Cayman Islands - May 2011
This year's group was an even mix of seasoned divers (we had one brand new diver) and snorkelers. We stayed at Brac Reef Beach Resort on the island of Cayman Brac. The resort was recently renovated after being devastated by Hurricane Paloma in the 2008. The rooms are modern, spacious and well-appointed. The grounds were very clean...the sandy beach, complete with inviting hammocks lulled many of our divers on their afternoon naps! Our all-inclusive package included all three meals and three drinks each day - the food was fabulous! The dive operation, Reef Divers II, was very organized and very safety-conscious. We were well-briefed before each dive, complete with a very detailed drawing of the dive profile. Each dive was guided by very experienced, and very entertaining, divemasters. Led through exciting swim-throughs and chutes, we dove spectacular walls lined with soft coral and the ever-elusive, black coral...all the while admiring the abundance of fish - our favorite being the friendly groupers. I dove with creatures I had never seen before, such as the Caribbean Reef Squid and the Whitespotted Filefish! The highlight of our trip was most definitely our trip to Little Cayman (about 5 miles from Cayman Brac). We dove the extraordinary Bloody Bay Wall and were blown away by the incredibly clear water, superb visibility and healthy marine life. Our snorkelers also joined us on this day trip...snorkeling to the wall's edge. This was definitely a trip to remember! "Charged up!"
